For Jessie Ware, "If You Love Me" is a return, of sorts, to the roots of her career. The collaboration with Japanese teenagers BenZel is a cover of 1990s R&B group Brownstone's track of the same name, reworked with a jittery beat that resembles those Ware sung over on SBTRKT's debut album. But Ware is a presence of her own now, so she's the driving force of "If You Love Me"-- and this version wisely decides to not attempt to replicate the original's stunning harmonies. Instead, it pushes Ware's commanding vocal to the forefront, following the formula that made her one of the year's breakout stars.
