At first glance, "Everything Nice" is harmless enough: a simple balladesque single from a dancehall mainstay that urges the world to stuff its troubles away for just long enough to get a little buzzed and find someone to dance with. But give him a second, and Popcaan—whose mournful cry leapt off Pusha T's "Blocka" and onto Yeezus' "Guilt Trip" last year—will cut deeper than his candy-coated dancehall bona fides would lead you to expect. In a world where everything is nice, synth strokes, key changes, and swigs of liquor are paced heartbreakingly gently—this celebration is joy, but Popcaan knows it's also a much-needed release from something that might've left you too drained to celebrate properly.
