Take note who this song is credited to. On "Wake Me When It's Over", the lead track from The-Dream's free LP under his real name, 1977, Terius Nash is getting personal and working out some real pain: he and R&B singer Christina Milian ended their one-year marriage in the summer of 2010, right around when last year's Love King was released. The split took place after pictures suggesting Nash's infidelity emerged, and he addresses his red-handedness ("Life on the Internet/ I look like a devil") but throws a few barbs of his own, too ("It's so easy to throw you under that bus that you riding on"). The mixed emotions-- guilt, and inexplicable bitterness, too-- are reminiscent of 808s and Heartbreak-era Kanye West, while the song title's numb-the-pain-away sentiment is in step with Drake's bleary-eyed emoting. Musically, though, "Wake Me When It's Over" is all The-Dream, with cavernous drums and languid synths that recall Love vs. Money sex ode "Sweat It Out". There's no love made here, though-- just lost.
