Like his one-time collaborator Ty Segall, White Fence's Tim Presley apparently never goes anywhere without his guitar and four-track. After releasing three records in 2012, Presley is hitting the ground running once again in 2013, with a new album called Cyclops Reap set to arrive on April 9 via Castleface. First single "Pink Gorilla" splits the difference between the gut-level rock of last year’s excellent Segall/White Fence co-release Hair and the acid-folk of the profoundly weird Family Perfume records, as slashing guitars and a solid backbeat provide a sturdy foundation for Presley’s acidic, John Lennon-esque purr. The back half of "Pink Gorilla" is given over to a full-blown psychedelic jam that recalls the trippy splendor of White Fence’s live shows.
