Whether he’s working as Daywalker, Grackle, Speculator, or Willie Burns, Brooklyn’s Will Burnett continues to garner accolades for what the European press deems “outsider house.” With his Black Deer moniker, Burnett conjures slightly more pastoral, kosmische vibes, rather than the analog acid and house of those other projects. His first Black Deer single deployed nylon string guitar, but his forthcoming EP, The Last Tortuga, foregrounds old drum machines and the type of synths that underpinned old Harmonia albums. Regardless of the genre he’s tagged with, though, his lyrical acumen remains intact, as it does on this shimmering track.
