Nick Bassett used to be a guitarist for black metal abstractionists Deafheaven; now, his main act is the more shoegaze-fixated project Whirr, who are readying a new EP, the follow-up to last year's Pipe Dreams. It's called Around, and it sees release on July 9 via Graveface. The throttle of high-density guitar swarm in the beginning of this Around cut, "Swoon", eventually recedes to prove that it's not all doom and gloom, as the tune slowly opens to reveal a brutally beautiful shoegaze-y figure.
