The newest (and largely homogenous) old-school death metal trend shows no signs of waning, but there are still a few glints of gold waiting to be plucked from the mire. For instance, Olympia, Wash., label 20 Buck Spin is releasing the debut 12" from local quartet Bone Sickness, a group for those of us who obsess over Autopsy and Repulsion in equal measure. The young-but-deadly outfit have been hammering away in the underground since 2010, offering a demo and EP before throwing themselves into the recording of this seven-song collection, Alone in the Grave. On it, plodding, churning death metal gives way to dirty d-beat tempos while deranged barks from vocalist Sam Osborne (also of Trepanation) scrape paint off the walls. In short, Bone Sickness get it right. Check out opening track, "Submit to Decay".
