Delaware indie-pop duo Mean Lady knows the value of a bait and switch. Their first single, "Bop Bop", morphed from a fumbling, acoustic strummer into a spectral and vast arrangement of vocal loops, drum machines and twinkling keyboards. "Far Away," a song from their Fat Possum debut Love Now (out July 23), pulls a similar trick with an entirely different set of tools.

For the first minute, "Far Away" wouldn't feel out of place on the last Youth Lagoon record, an out-of-time waltz flanked by aqueous sound effects. It's a prelude to something far more vigorous, though, as squishy beats, sprightly piano plinks, and an approximation of a sitar server as the backdrop for Katie Dill's transcontinental love letter. All of which shows Mean Lady's yen for globetrotting, though Dill's clean and confident vocals convey a sentiment understood by a teen who's never gone beyond their city limits: "When I'm old enough to marry/I will marry you."
