With Storm Queen's last single-- 2011's instant underground classic "It Goes On"-- producer Morgan Geist told The Daily that he wanted to bring the blues back to house music. The song did just that, with vocalist Damon Scott singing a chorus detailing personal immobility in the wake of a break-up that cut against house's traditional template of redemption. "Let's Make Mistakes", Storm Queen's newest offering, finds Scott seemingly singing about the same relationship. But here, the hole in his heart has turned him from inconsolable to carnal: "Don't wanna be your friend/ But let's make mistakes," Scott purrs over Geist's thunderous bassline. With "Let's Make Mistakes," Geist flips his old mission statement but retains the sulking darkness that made "It Goes On" so alluring in the first place. It's still house music for the shadowy security of the dancefloor, but it serves a different purpose entirely.
