It's been about four years since Michael Silver released his debut album as CFCF, 2009's Continent; in the meantime, the multi-faceted Canadian artist has gone in a few divergent directions from what that record sounded like. "Jump Out of the Train", from Silver's forthcoming sophomore album Outside (out October 22 via Paper Bag/Dummy), is a return to form, exploring CFCF's love for cyclical, interwoven melodic patterns.

Here, he applies those compositional trademarks to something resembling a spry-yet-meditative pop song. With the help of Active Child's distinctive backing vocals, Silver channels his inner Peter Gabriel amongst layers of luminous synth pads, tumbling drum fills, and understated bass tones, sounding perfectly natural as he intones his existential lyrics with a quiet determination.
