When analog synth-pop artist Owen Ashworth announced he'd be stepping away from his Casiotone for the Painfully Alone moniker in 2010, he assured fans he had no plans to quit music for good. He's since adapted the name Advance Base, under which he produced beats for the 2011 album by Chicago rapper Serengeti. And now, on May 1, the Caldo Verde label will release his full-length, A Shut-In's Prayer. Album cut "Summer Music" sounds like a smart progression from Ashworth's Casiotone recordings, presenting that project's bittersweet introspection with more nuanced production.
