Chuck Timely & The Hourglass
“Role Model’s third album makes no effort to reinvent the wheel, but it is pretty damn catchy.”
Chuck Timely & The Hourglass
“Songwriter Tucker Pillsbury reinvents himself as a time-traveling session musician, laying on the charm for an ersatz barroom country record that’s not totally convincing.”
Chuck Timely & The Hourglass
“Last year saw Role Model, one of pop’s great over-sharers, finish up shooting the new Lena Dunham movie, Good Sex. The filmmaker is, of course, no stranger to spilling the beans herself. Just imagine the small talk they made on set. It remains to be seen how the 29-year-old singer-songwriter – aka Tucker Pillsbury – fares in his first-ever acting gig, but the whole make-believe thing seems to hav”
Kansas Anymore
“I’ll admit it, I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into Kansas Anymore by Role Model, but this record absolutely grew on me. There’s sincerity in the songwriting and a folksier, indie-pop vibe that’s miles away from the slick alt-pop he was doing before, and that honesty is the thing that pulled me in. The emotional arc — heartbreak, nostalgia, self-awareness is clear from start to finish, with moments that genuinely stick with you like “Look at That Woman” and the duet “So Far Gone.” But for every genuinely affecting moment, there are a few tracks that drift or feel lyrically familiar, dragging the pace just a bit. Vocals and melodies are pleasant but don’t always grab you instantly, and at times the album wears its influences on its sleeve a little too obviously. As someone who came in curious and found myself genuinely connecting with pieces of it, I’d say Kansas Anymore is a comfy, emotional listen even if it never fully hits classic status. It’s a solid, heart-on-its-sleeve effort that convinced me Role Model isn’t just a flash in the pan.”
Chuck Timely & The Hourglass
“I heard a lot about this before it was released, and from what I heard before I’ve gotta say I was expecting so much more. There were a few good tunes on here but apart from that, wouldn’t listen again”
Chuck Timely & The Hourglass
“Having the two upbeat songs as the only two singles was a choice”
