“In a Dream is such a beautiful little snapshot of where Troye Sivan was creatively and emotionally at the time. As someone who genuinely loves Troye’s music, I appreciate this EP because it feels less like a traditional collection of songs and more like being dropped into a very specific emotional headspace.
The title track, “In a Dream,” is still one of my favorites. There’s something almost hypnotic about it…the dreamy production, Troye’s soft vocals, and that feeling of holding onto something that you already know might be slipping away. “Easy” is another standout for me, especially because it captures that messy feeling of knowing a relationship is falling apart but still wanting to save it.
I also love how the EP moves between heartbreak and escapism. “Take Yourself Home” feels incredibly introspective, while “Rager Teenager!” brings in a completely different energy. Then there’s “Could Cry Just Thinkin About You,” which is basically Troye at his most emotionally vulnerable. It’s short, but somehow every song feels like it has a purpose.
What makes In a Dream work so well for me is that it doesn’t feel overstuffed. Six songs, no unnecessary detours, and a very clear atmosphere from beginning to end. It feels like a late-night drive, looking through old photos, missing someone you probably shouldn’t miss, and trying to convince yourself that you’re okay.
As a longtime Troye fan, I think this EP is easy to overlook because of how short it is, but I actually think that’s part of its charm. In a Dream captures a very specific moment in Troye’s artistry and turns heartbreak, nostalgia, loneliness, and freedom into something dreamy and beautiful.”
