“Billie Eilish’s debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, was nothing short of a cultural reset. When it dropped, it felt like something completely new — weird, wonderful, and totally fearless. Billie didn’t just bend the rules of pop music; she pretty much made her own. The production is haunting, glitchy, and super minimal (FINNEAS killed it), and Billie’s whispery, emotion-packed vocals somehow make every track feel both intimate and eerie. Tracks like “bury a friend,” “you should see me in a crown,” and “ilomilo” still hit just as hard today — creative, creepy, and endlessly replayable. Of course, “bad guy” became a massive anthem, and while it was everywhere, it actually deserves the hype. It’s catchy but also strange and fun in a totally Billie way. What keeps it from being a full five stars for me is that a couple tracks feel more like interludes or vibe pieces than fully fleshed-out songs — but that also kind of works for the dreamlike, sleep-paralysis-fever-dream feeling of the album. Overall, it’s an incredible debut that showed the world Billie wasn’t just a teenage trend — she was here to shift the landscape. Dark, clever, and totally original — this album is unforgettable.”
