“I’ll be honest, I didn’t really know much about The Beaches before this past summer. I ended up seeing them open for Louis Tomlinson in Miami, and they completely caught me off guard. I went in expecting to enjoy the opening set, but I left thinking, “Wait… why have I not been listening to this band?” 😂
That show basically sent me down the rabbit hole, and going back to Late Show has been such a fun way to get to know where The Beaches started.
What I love about this album is how much personality it has. It doesn’t feel overly polished or like it’s trying too hard to be anything other than a really fun rock record. The guitars have that gritty energy, the choruses are ridiculously catchy, and there’s this confidence throughout the album that makes it easy to see why they work so well live.
“T-Shirt” was one of the first songs that really clicked with me, but honestly, the more I listen, the more little moments I find myself appreciating. “Money,” “Back of My Heart,” and “Fascination” all have that same energy where you can just picture yourself hearing them live with a crowd going crazy.
And I think that’s probably why this album hits differently for me now. I didn’t discover The Beaches through their first album — I discovered them on a stage in Miami. So when I listen to Late Show, I can almost connect the dots between the band I saw this summer and the younger version of the band making these songs years ago.
There’s something really cool about discovering an artist backwards like that. You see them live first, fall in love with their energy, and then go back through their catalog to understand how they got there.
Late Show definitely feels like the beginning of that journey for The Beaches. It’s messy in the best way, full of attitude, catchy as hell, and has the kind of songs that make you want to turn the volume up.
I may have only become a Beaches fan this summer, but I’m already having that feeling of “how did I sleep on this band for so long?” And honestly, I’m glad that Louis Tomlinson’s Miami show was what finally introduced me to them. This album feels like the perfect place to start getting to know the band beyond the stage.”
