“Over the last five years, since his last album, the Pulitzer Award-winning ‘DAMN’, Kendrick Lamar has been missed by the rap world. Revered for his vivid storytelling since his emergence in 2011, Kendrick has become a reference for all in the rap game on how to make seminal music and how to carry yourself while doing it. The man of mystique’s elaborate imagination is what has drawn us in year on y”
“As Kendrick Lamar notes on Mr Morale & the Big Steppers’ opening track, it’s been 1,855 days since he last released an album. By his own account, the intervening five years have been something of a rollercoaster ride. He and his partner started a family (his children are on the album’s front cover), he made an acclaimed acting debut, performed at the first ever Super Bowl half-time show centred ar”
“Kendrick Lamar is not a role model. The savior complex bestowed upon him after he echoed agreeable pro-Black politics on To Pimp A Butterfly at the tail-end of the Obama regime has been rejected. He made a whole album reconciling with the title, using DAMN. as a sounding board to chip away at the surface of his traumas, hoping he’d done enough good to outweigh the demons he felt were destined to p”
“A recurring motif anchors rapper Kendrick Lamar’s long-awaited fifth album – one that feels packed with meaning. The sound of tap dancing anchors this troubled and occasionally troubling double album, delayed by writer’s block and the pandemic. It is one that wrestles with the trauma of the Black experience as refracted through the lives of Lamar and his wider family: his partner and two children ”

“There’s a secret underpinning Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. “Tell them the truth,” Kendrick Lamar’s fiancée Whitney Alford says in its opening moments. The fallout of that secret touches every song that follows, from the self-doubt of ‘Die Hard’ to the despondent posturing of ‘Rich Spirit’, through to the misogyny and relationship turmoil of ‘We Cry Together’. It’s a knotted self-portrait that wr”
“Tried to think of reasons to rate this lower than a 10 but I can’t. Such an amazing, introspective piece of work by Kendrick after returning from a 4 year long hiatus. This tackles his self doubt, relationships, fatherhood and insecurities, whilst still sounding amazing and some of the rapping is really great as well. Top songs off the album for me are ‘N95’ ‘Die Hard’ ft Blxst & Amanda Reifer ‘Father Time’ ft Sampha ‘Rich Spirit’ ‘Purple Hearts’ ft Summer Walker & Ghostface Killah ‘Count Me Out’ ‘Mirror’”
“this is a great record by kendrick, i love how sentimental he gets here with tracks like mother i sober, father time, & we cry together. i have always adored the way kendrick rapping style and this shows it off perfectly. my favorite track is count me out.”
“M.M.A.T.B.S Review The album is a good length and has a good and emotional story too it that sticks with you. The message is clear and the way he puts it out is amazing.”
“Super emotional album that feels like Kendrick’s therapy session in music form. Made me cry twice, such a great album man.”
“Therapy if it was an album and auntie diary’s is some of the best story telling out there”
