“I had never listened to Max McNown before this album, and I think I just found a new cozy-weather artist.
The best way I can describe his sound is if Noah Kahan leaned country. It’s definitely more country-heavy than what I normally listen to, but it never crossed the line into being too country for me. There’s enough folk and singer-songwriter warmth mixed in that I really enjoyed it.
This album feels like autumn. Pumpkin patches, country roads, sweaters and scarves, leaves on the ground, and driving somewhere pretty while the weather is getting colder. It just has that warm, cozy feeling throughout.
I also really loved how much of the album centers around love, marriage, and family. There’s something incredibly sweet and sincere about the way Max writes about the people he loves—and finding out “Selah’s Song” was written for his little sister absolutely got me.
My immediate standouts were “First Born Daughter,” “World Change Me,” “Heart You Didn’t Break,” and “The Room.” “Isn’t That Love” was also beautiful, even if it personally hurt my feelings by simply existing. 😂
For an artist I had never heard before, this was such a good surprise. I’ll definitely be listening to more of Max McNown.
