“Now with fewer guardrails and way more nutso energy”
“The band’s first album in six years is a far weirder and more challenging listen than The New Abnormal, but that’s largely for the better: the lyrics probe more deeply, weaving deadpan humor with surreal observations, while the music swerves into all sorts of jarring detours.”
“‘Is This It’ must feel like a double-edged sword to The Strokes. Their lauded debut album earned them widespread acclaim and shot them to the top of festival bills and onto the covers of magazines around the world. It is also still the yardstick by which the rest of their discography has been judged by the general public, a barometer that holds little regard for evolution or growth. The Strokes h”
“a perfect marriage of mayhem and melody on their best album in years”
“Six years ago, New York City's indie rock crown jewel the Strokes transformed their sound with The New Abnormal, winning them Best Rock Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, and a permanent place in my heart. The album was the soundtrack to my lonesome last days of high school spent online, where I'd go on evening bike rides and listen to the album on loop. For many, The New Abnormal was a bril”
“Full of Auto-Tuned vocals and incisive lyrics, the rock band’s seventh album is doomy, strange, and fully in on the bit.”
“I feel like I have to evaluate on this. This whole album was very inconsistently inconsistent, yet the other way round at the same time. There were a few standout tracks that set the scene for this album, but apart from those few tracks, it was sort of difficult to listen to. I think the vocal effects were too overdone and a lot of the songs just felt like there was no specific goal or direction. Though as I said, there was some positives to this album and it carried some strong messages within its lyricism. Julian’s vocal range is great, as always. It’s just a shame that the album felt a bit underwhelming.”
“Un bell’album tutto sommato, e non so come mai così tante persone lo detestino. Volevo dargli 8 ma perde punti per Psycho Shit e Tyrants Of The Mellow Moon. Peccato per l’autotune usato a sproposito per “sperimentare”, rende tutto un po’ troppo carico e se non ci fosse stato l’album avrebbe potuto essere ancora meglio. Comunque sono piacevolmente sorpresa e mi fa venir voglia di ballare, quindi top”
“The autotune is absolutely despicable at times but if you can see past it there are some truly great songs. If the album had more ‘Going Shopping’ and less ‘Psycho Shit’ I really believe it could’ve been special. Fav song : Dine N’Dash”
“You have to listen multiple times to enjoy it purely”
“Could’ve been much better, but still growing on me.”
