“The boy is back. Drake just released his fifth studio album, Scorpion, the followup to his 2017 playlist, More Life. With a weighty rollout including endearing videos for "God's Plan" and "Nice For What" and the less-favoured single "I'm Upset," Drake aims to come out stronger, more focused and more righteous than ever. The 25-track album comes organized into two parts, with a collection of song”
“The rapper opens up about his newly revealed son and reminds everyone why he's the poet laureate of Instagram captions on a remarkably long but consistent album.”
“Drake’s fifth proper studio album is richly produced, studded with gems, and grapples with his fatherhood in a way that casts his arrested development into sharp relief.”
“On ‘Survival’, the first of 25 tracks from Drake’s colossal, dual-sided album ‘Scorpion’, the rapper opens by directly addressing his current state of affairs: “All of this disorder, no addressin’ / The crown is broken in pieces, but there’s more in my possession”. It pretty much sums up where Drake finds himself at this moment in time – in that precarious position at the very top of the rap/pop s”
“Scorpion continues Drake's streak of projects that have been padded out to oblivion.”
“With this album being so long, it catches different moods and emotions. Songs like gods plan and non-stop feel kind of triumphant in a way, yet songs like summer games is more emotional and melancholic in a way? I think Drake is a great storyteller even if his topics get a bit repetitive sometimes, you can dislike Drake but you can’t say he isn’t a very talented artist with a lot of catchy hits worthy of being remembered in years and years to come in the rap industry”
“Soooooo bad. I actually thought at the time that the reaction to this album was a bit over the top but after a proper listen it deserves every negative review it got. Apart from the singles and hits on the album (which there is a handful) the rest of the album is so boring and skippable. Top songs are ‘Gods Plan’ ‘Nonstop’ ‘Nice For What’ ‘In My Feelings’ (Pushed up to a 4 after seeing some of my ratings that are above this😂)”
